Your Spring 2026 Guide to the Philadelphia Western Suburbs
Spring has a way of making the Philadelphia western suburbs feel like the best-kept secret in the region. The trails wake up, the patios open, and the event calendars start filling fast. Here's what's worth putting on your radar for April and May 2026 — from beloved local traditions to events that put this part of the Philly area squarely on the map.
Earth Day Phoenixville — April 18
Phoenixville's Reservoir Park gets taken over on April 18 for Earth Day Phoenixville 2026, running noon to 4pm. Expect outdoor activities, local environmental organizations, vendors, and the general good energy that Phoenixville tends to bring to everything it does. It's a great excuse to spend a Saturday afternoon in one of the area's most walkable and vibrant downtowns — and maybe grab a beer at one of the excellent bars along Bridge Street afterward.
This one's free, family-friendly, and easy to make a full afternoon out of. Phoenixville has quietly become one of the best towns in the suburbs for exactly this kind of thing.
Wheels of Wayne Car Show — April 26
If you haven't been to the Wheels of Wayne Car Show, it's one of those free community events that's way more fun than it sounds. Downtown Wayne's North Wayne Avenue shuts down for the day as hundreds of classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles line the street for the 12th annual show. There's food, live entertainment, a pulled pork and best pizza contest, and the kind of small-town block party energy that makes the Main Line suburbs at their best.
It's free to attend, runs all day on April 26 (rain date May 3), and the surrounding shops and restaurants in Wayne make it easy to turn into a full day out. Great for families, car enthusiasts, or anyone who just wants to be outside on a spring Sunday.
Spring Craft Fair at Exton — May 2
The Spring Craft Fair hits Main Street at Exton on May 2 for an outdoor shopping experience featuring handmade goods, jewelry, home décor, clothing, and more. It's the kind of event that's easy to make a morning out of — browse the vendors, grab lunch, and enjoy the fact that you're outside in May without needing a jacket for the first time in months.
PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club — May 11–17
This is a big one. The 108th PGA Championship is coming to Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square from May 11–17, 2026 — the first time the tournament has been held at Aronimink since 1962. This is a genuine once-in-a-generation event for the area, and it puts Newtown Square and Delaware County on a very large stage.
Whether you're a serious golf fan or just curious what it looks like when one of the world's biggest sporting events rolls into your backyard, it's worth checking out. Tickets and information are available at pgachampionship.com. Expect a lot of buzz in the surrounding area throughout the week — local restaurants and bars near Newtown Square will be busy.
Phoenixville Dogwood Festival — May 13–16
This one is a full-on institution. The Phoenixville Dogwood Festival returns for its 83rd year from May 13 through 16, taking over Reeves Park with artisan vendors, carnival rides, food, games, live music, and the Dogwood Beer Garden in the evenings. The parade caps off the weekend on Saturday, May 16 — a proper small-town tradition that's been going strong since 1944.
If you've got kids, this is an easy slam dunk. If you don't, the Beer Garden and live music nights are genuinely fun. The Dogwood Festival is one of those things the suburbs does really well — the kind of community event that a lot of places wish they had.
While You're At It: Get Outside This Spring
Beyond the events calendar, spring is just a great time to explore what the western suburbs have going for it naturally. A few suggestions:
- Valley Forge National Historical Park — The trails are excellent and the wildflowers in April are underrated. Great for runners, cyclists, and casual walkers alike.
- Chanticleer Garden (Wayne) — One of the most beautiful gardens in the region opens April 1 for the season. Guided tours run Thursday through Saturday. A genuinely special place that most locals have never visited.
- Ridley Creek State Park — One of the most scenic state parks in the region, with 12+ miles of trails through old-growth forest and meadow.
- Brandywine Creek State Park (DE) — Just over the border, worth the 20-minute drive for the creek-side trails and the wildflower preserve in bloom.
- Local wineries — Several Chester County wineries start their outdoor seating season in April. Check our area winery guide for a full list.
